Following this experience I am now vigilant and will not eat high risk foods. The doctor advised me to stay away from any shoots and if eating seafood prepare it myself. I was so angry at myself as I know the risks but took the chance anyway, even though I tried to take precautions to try and minimise the risk. I was paranoid and asked them to test for Listeria, but given the quick onset and type of symptoms the Dr was certain it was food poisoning but tested my electrolytes and inflammatory markers as a precaution - all bloods came back okay. I told the Dr what happened and she said that while I was so worried about the prawns being cooked well, it was most likely the bean shoots as they are often not cooked for long enough and have high risk of carrying E.Coli and Salmonella. I told hubby we need to go straight to the hospital as I started to worry about listeria. 3 hours after dinner I started to feel sick and vomited violently, I went to sleep then woke up a two times in the night vomiting and by morning I had diarrhoea. The meal arrived and the bean shoots looked quite soft though the prawns looked a little underdone so I asked for the bowl to be heated up for a couple more minutes, and it came back looking pretty perfect. ![]() When you prepare your list of super foods during pregnancy, you want oatmeal at the top of your list.
